Nusa Penida 2 Day Itinerary – Overview

Before going into this complete itinerary for spending 2 days in Nusa Penida, let’s go through the basics that you should take care of before getting here!

Is Nusa Penida Worth Visiting?

Absolutely! Nusa Penida is an island like no other – a whole different world! Think dramatic cliffs, bays, and beaches that have been heating up everyone’s Instagram feeds (you’ve probably seen Kelingking Beach!) and the best place to see manta rays you’ll ever experience.

It’s essentially Bali without the crowds. This means it’s the ultimate escape from Bali, whether you’re into a quiet chill-out or you’re a bit more of an adrenaline junkie desperate to see the island more than what Kuta offers.

The answer is a resounding YES if you wonder if Nusa Penida is worth visiting.

How to Get to Nusa Penida?

The fastest way to get there is to take a fast boat from Bali to Nusa Penida, which leaves from either Sanur or Padangbai. The journey takes around 30-45 minutes from Sanur and usually about an hour from Padangbai, is incredibly short given the distance.

Secondly, there is the public ferry route from Padangbai, which is a cheaper but longer alternative choice. A more expensive mode of transportation is the private speedboat, and that’s my favorite way to get to Nusa Penida.

Lastly, a day trip to Nusa Penida is a more structured option since you’ll be with a tour guide the whole time. Of course, you’re here for longer, so you can also get the 2 Day Nusa Penida Tour, which is a quick and hassle-free option. I’ll share the best Nusa Penida tours below.

How Long Should You Stay in Nusa Penida?

I would suggest you spend 2 days in Nusa Penida as it is the ideal time frame. This is enough if you have a good eye on things you can pick with enough time to explore. It’s the best of the three Nusa Islands, so it’s good to have more time.

This way, you can chill at Crystal Bay, visit Angel’s Billabong, and still have some time to explore around and see the sunset in the evening (or the sunrise if you’re early bird).

I still recommend having a longer Bali itinerary, but Nusa Penida should definitely be a part of it.

Nusa Penida 2 Day Itinerary

Buckle up for an epic 2-day trip to Nusa Penida that you’ll remember for a long time! This is your ultimate guide to exploring the beauty of the island for a maximum of 48 hours.

And I’m not just talking about the mainstream attractions of the island, but exploring the unseen coves, soaring cliffs, and eating delicious food, which you might go viral for on Instagram!

While I recommend joining a trip from Bali to Nusa Penida and Lembongan, you’ll still want to go through the itinerary below to learn how to plan a trip to Nusa Penida yourself. Let’s go!

Day 1 in Nusa Penida

Be prepared for the beginning of your day of trip to Nusa Penida. After taking the boat from Bali, you’ll be in for a day full of sun and sun sea together with some eye-pleasing beauties!

If you spend 2 days in Nusa Penida without a guide, I recommend renting a motorbike (if you can ride; if not, get a private driver, but definitely do not rent one as the road aren’t well-maintained).

These are the attractions to explore in the Nusa Penida itinerary for your 1st day:

Morning: Angel’s Billabong and Broken Beach

Angel’s Billabong and Broken Beach are two of the island’s most picturesque places of interest, and arguable some of the best places to visit in Indonesia!

Although the coasts of Indonesia are already so much prettier than some of the mainstream lost in the list, every single cove, cliff, and underwater world will make you want to share them on Instagram.

Angel’s Billabong is our favorite starting place — a natural infinity pool that overflows into the sea. Absolutely stunning and not to be missed. But remember you cannot swim during high tide!

And then, very close to that spot is Broken Beach. It’s this place where there is a huge arch that’s been carved out of the cliff by the sea.

You can walk all the way around the top and get these amazing views through the hole of the ocean. It’s like a big window to the sea! You can’t swim here, but the photos you’ll take are definitely worth it.

You’ll want to pair Angel’s Billabong and Broken Beach on your first morning in Nusa Penida – nature at its best right there in Indonesia!

Morning: Make Your Way to Kelingking Beach

After that, you want to visit the cliffs in the shape of a T-Rex with the stunning ocean, also known as Kelingking Beach, the second of your stops! It’s worth noting that some people call it Kelingking Secret Point Beach.

The views are, in a word, stunning. Imagine this enormous cliff that looks just like a T-rex beach, and underneath is a gorgeous little strip of beach with the bluest water you’ve ever seen.

Getting down to the white sandy beach requires a bit of a trek down – It’s on quite the incline and a bit of a treacherous hike, but honestly, it only adds to the trip.

I highly recommend wearing proper shoes instead of slippers or sandals, as the stairs are not maintained.

Trekking aside, it’s ridiculously worth it when you get to the base of the cliff, and the sight does wonders for understanding why this is one of the most renowned beaches on the peninsula.

Entry is based on parking, IDR 10,000 per car and 5,000 IDR per scooter – yes! It’s the most affordable thing, and with a view like that, it’s definitely worth the money.

Morning: Paluang Cliff Viewpoint

One of the must-see viewpoints in Nusa Penida, just next to Kelingking Beach, is the Paluang Cliff Viewpoint.

It’s one of the key tourist attractions on the island. The bird-meter view from these cliffs is amazing, and this is one of the places you might want to consider coming back to for sunset.

It is a must location to have a panoramic view of the beauty of Nusa Penida. An unforgettable experience is sunset at Paluang Cliff, where the rugged cliffs provide an intriguing contrast, making it a perfect spot for some clicks that are worth a thousand words.

Have Lunch at Kelingking Bar and Restaurant

Stop for a meal at Kelingking Bar and Restaurant, the ideal place for delicious food, whether you’re fueling up for a beach day or winding down from some fun in the sun.

The Nasi Campur and Ayam Betutu are something very special – a must-try, one big reason you should visit Kelingking Bar and Restaurant.

If you have a taste for something all prettier, they have got you covered with chicken curry or smoothie bowls, which is also good for you to solve your hunger!

This nice spot isn’t limited to lunch: trust me, you’ll be just as happy stopping by any time of day. All the dishes are not only tasty but also natural eye-pleasers when they arrived at your table. In one word – Delicious!

Afternoon: Swim at Crystal Bay Beach

Take the middle of the day as your opportunity to visit Crystal Bay Beach. It’s the place where you can both enjoy the refreshing seawater and spend time relaxing, and it provides you with the opportunity to dip your toes in paradise.

The bay is surrounded by palm trees and greenery, making it feel like you’re in a tropical hideaway. The beach is super clean, ideal for kicking back with a book or just soaking up some sun.

There is a snack bar, where you can buy drinks and coconuts – which is great in its convenience!

Afternoon: Sunset at Pandan Beach

Pandan beach is an amazing spot to capture the sun hiding behind the horizon. The beach is a great little hidden gem that isn’t as busy as some, offering a calm, relaxing setting from which to catch nature’s finest evening light show.

After the sun dips on the horizon, you will start to see the sky as a canvas of orange, pink, and purple hues, and that’s probably the best moment of your 2 day Nusa Penida tour!

Pandan beach has another amazing point where this beach is not crowded then you can feel more relaxed. You could easily go down to the beach, feel the soft sand in your feet, and relax.

Perfect for some self-reflection, taking a few photos, or just admiring the beauty in front of you.

Day 2 – Itinerary Nusa Penida

The first day introduced you to the west side of Nusa Penida. This second day is for exploring the eastern coast of the island. So here below are some other attractions around the small island that you will fall in love with.

P.S. If you go on a Nusa Penida tour this afternoon, you will be left at Nusa Lembongan, which is a beautiful place to watch the sunset as well (more on that later).

Start the Day at Diamond Beach

Make sure you start the morning with a visit to Diamond Beach – it’s like stepping into a dream! The beach is just too beautiful with white sands and crystal clear blue water (around the beach), surrounded by cliffs.

Reaching Diamond Beach might seem like a little adventure as you have to walk down the cliffs on the bamboo stairs. However, it only takes a few minutes and once you arrive at the shore, you will feel like you have your own piece of personal paradise.

You could go for a swim, just lay on the beach, or enjoy the view for simple sheer beauty. Look at crystal clear water touching the white sand beach and hear yourself say wow!

What better way to start your day than seeing the perfect and natural beauty of Nusa Penida.

Also, if you are looking for a quick trek to a neighboring beach, then just head down to Atuh Beach, which is just a 15-minute walk and adds up to your morning trek!

Stop by Nusa Penida Treehouse

Don’t leave the island without visiting the Rumah Pohon. This tree house is not something to just pass by, it’s out of a fairytale and located on a mountain in Nusa Penida to offer some of the best views of the island you could ask for.

It’s a bit of a climb to get there, but once you do, the views are out of this world. You can see the ocean stretching out in front of you, and it feels like you’re on top of the world.

The views are out of this world which makes it perfect for either a relaxing session of photographs or to spend some time taking in the beauty of simplicity in nature. Indeed, this is a no-miss spot and definitely should be on your 2-Day Nusa Penida itinerary.

Head to the Teletubbies Hill

Another exciting spot – this time with greener pastures instead of a beach – is Teletubbies Hill! About 30-minute drive from Diamond Beach; this place is also well worth a visit. The green rolling hills will make you feel like you have just stepped into a fairy tale!

Do you know what Teletubbies Hill sounds like? And YES, it is that much fun. The greenery around rolls as far as you can observe, nothing but a storybook.

The hills have this unique, rounded shape that’s super cool to see. It’s a bit of a drive, but the journey is filled with beautiful landscapes.

Once you’re there, take a walk, snap some photos, and enjoy the peaceful vibes. It’s a great place to just chill and enjoy the fresh air and lovely views.

Go Snorkeling at Manta Point

Before lunch, go snorkeling or scuba diving at Manta Point. It’s a spot to swim with manta rays in their natural habitat and it’s absolutely amazing.

See, Nusa Penida is famous for having dozens of mantas – you can see why that would be a shame to miss on a snorkel trip.

Remember to respect their space and not touch them, though. Whether you’re a snorkeling pro or trying it for the first time, this is a must-do – it’s not every day you get to be near manta rays swimming!

Honestly, if you never tried snorkeling, you should go for it, as you don’t particularly need any experience. Plus, you can rent a life jacket, so it’s quite safe.

All in all, it’s one of the best experiences in Southeast Asia, and you’ll love seeing the giant manta rays!

Have Lunch at Manta Point Bar & Resto

A must-visit spot on Nusa Penida when you’re up to the Manta Point area is Manta Café. It’s an easy-going, relaxing, and cozy place where you need to trust me cause you can’t say you feel nothing as you eat the food.

It is one of the best burgers in Bali- both vegetarian and chicken options. You must try their desserts too; the pineapple pancake and fruit-topped smoothie bowls are a delight to watch and eat.

It can be quite packed at times, so if you visit here definitely be prepared to be a little patient cause the service can be pretty slow. Good variety of quality food at great prices served with love. This is a must-go for good coffee and food.

End the Day at Amok Restaurant and Sunset Bar

End your Nusa Penida itinerary in style at Amok Restaurant and Sunset Bar serves as the perfect spot to relax and enjoy an incredible sunset.

Sit down comfortably, enjoying an ice-cold drink as the sky transforms into a palette of beautiful pinks and oranges. The atmosphere is simple, friendly, and all about relaxing and taking in the views!

The food at Amok is a treat in itself, and you can have dinner while the sun sets. Whether you’re in the mood for local flavors or something more familiar, they’ve got you covered.

High-quality food, satisfying beverages, and exclusive sunset viewpoint in Nusa Penida. The place should definitely be on your island’s to-do list. You will leave with a full stomach and a big smile, and I promise you’ll love it, as one of the best sunset spots on the island!

Where to Stay in Nusa Penida

I recommend staying in Nusa Penida East during your stay so that you are near the pier when arriving from Bali and it’ll be easier to leave when going back. These are the best places to stay in Nuda Penida.

Luxury: Atalaya Villas Nusa Penida

Atalaya Villas in Nusa Penida provides a luxury experience with an outdoor pool, garden, terrace, and restaurant/bar. Located near Pandan and Gamat Bay Beaches, it offers air-conditioned rooms with fridges, minibars, and private bathrooms.
