3 Days Krabi Itinerary – Summary

First of all, let’s go through some details that you’ll want to know about Krabi, such as getting there, the best time to visit, how to get around, and more.

How to Get to Krabi?

The quickest way of getting to Krabi is by air. Krabi Airport (KBV) has direct flights from Bangkok and other parts of Thailand including Chiang Mai.

Krabi Airport also has flights coming from abroad including destinations in Asia such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.

The second option for getting to Krabi is by bus. You can hop on a regular local bus from Bangkok to Krabi and the same goes for Phuket.

You can also get to Krabi by ferry, if you come from the islands.

Lastly, There is also an option of taking a ferry to Krabi (Ao Nang) for people coming from Koh Phi Phi, ferry departs from Ton Sai Pier and will drop you at Nopparat Thara Pier, it is less than 2 hours ride and there are few schedules in a day.

Best Time to Visit Krabi

Although visiting Krabi is a good idea all year round, the best time to visit Krabi is from November to March, which is the dry season. The weather won’t be too hot and it won’t be all that rainy either.

It’s the perfect time to go sightseeing since usual attractions are also in their best condition at this time like Railay Beach, Phra Nang Cave Beach, and Klong Thom Hot Springs. Despite being the peak tourist season, you’ll avoid the rainy season!

How to Get Around Krabi?

The most popular way to get around is by joining organized tours, which are convenient and offer an immersive experience around.

Another option is to take a taxi, Grab Cars, or a tuk-tuk if near the Ao Nang pier area.

If you are in an adventurous mood, you can also rent a motorbike to have a look at the beautiful region at your own pace. Many resorts offer rental services in Ao Nang and Krabi Town, and the price is approximately 250 to 300 THB per day which is almost $10. It’s an affordable way as well as a new experience to enjoy.

This is the best way to explore the area and reach difficult-to-visit landmarks like the Tiger Cave Temple, which is located quite far from Ao Nang.

Ultimate 3 Days Krabi Itinerary

Now that you’ve got the basics, it’s time to set off on this ultimate 3-day Krabi itinerary. Here’s a rundown for each day of all the must-do activities and some day trip options that I highly suggest you consider.

Day 1: Ao Nang & Railay Beach

Start your Krabi holiday 3-day in the beautiful coastal town of Ao Nang from the airport. Ao Nang is a great place to start your trip and to get the taste of the beautiful sea beaches of South Thailand.

Finally, you will reach the last attraction which will blow you away with its white sandy beaches and also limestone cliffs all around – The place is known as Railay Beach. Here’s how to spend this first day of your Krabi itinerary.

Arriving in Ao Nang

To make the most of your time in Krabi, you’ll probably be heading straight to Ao Nang to get the party started. From the airport, get to Ao Nang by taxi, join the line of a songthaew or take a shuttle bus – I recommend the last one.

Around check-in hours, get your hotel room and by then, proceed to the stunning Railay Beach including Phra Nang Beach located a bit afar reachable only by long-tail boats.

Tickets cost 800 THB return per person, but you can lower that by taking a group boat ride, which eventually can cost you 200 THB return. Separated from the mainland by high cliffs of limestone, Railay Beach is a must-go on any Krabi itinerary, and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Visit Railay Beach

One highlight to add to your itinerary is Railay Beach, and coming over is one of the best things to do in Krabi!

You can buy your tickets at the Ao Nang Pier, there are 2 ticket offices, which are on each of the beach, for added convenience. Once you get your tickets, the trip to Railay only takes about 20 minutes by long-tail boat.

You’ll get here at either Railay East or West – In case you arrive at the western part, you can already chill on the beach, work on your tan, and have a drink at one of the cafes nearby. This is the most beautiful, pristine part.

However, if you get to Railay East, you can either walk to Railay West and enjoy your time here, or walk to Phra Nang Beach, which is not too far away as well and is also an amazing beach itself. Just make sure you do a two-kilometer trek in order to see them both.

For those of you who are adrenaline junkies, give rock climbing in Railay Beach a shot! This will make you high, I promise you’ll have an epic time.

For lunch, walk over to any of the beachfront restaurants where there is a large variety of seafood and shakes. Hawkeye and Flame Tree Restaurant are very good, and despite the recent reviews, I’ve always had a great meal at both.

After that, lie down in the sun or rest in the shade of palm trees and take a power nap. And even if you are full of energy, then conclude your day by hiking to Railay Viewpoint where the views will take your breath away for sure.

One warning: Be very careful with the monkeys on Railay Beach as they will steal your stuff and just remember to wear good shoes if you decide to trek to the viewpoint.

After the first day of your Krabi itinerary visiting Railay, make your return journey back to Ao Nang.

Spend the Evening in Ao Nang

After a day at Railay Beach, head back to Ao Nang for some evening fun. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, shops, and the famous Ao Nang Krabi Night Market.

Head to the night markets that are lively and smell gorgeous, to munch on some tasty street food. The food here is just amazing and make sure you try durian.

There are several night markets in Krabi – One in Krabi Town, which you need to take a taxi from Ao Nang for, and one night Ao Nang proper, which is like a walking street and good enough for a night out!

If you’re thinking “I’m not really into that kind of thing,” wait until you hear about this last activity in the next section!

Go to a Muay Thai Match

Now that you’ve got the best sunset you’ve ever seen, it’s only fair that to conclude the night, you throw just a bit of excitement into the mix, and what better way to do that than hitting up a Muay Thai fight?

The full and adrenaline-charged venue will have you excited once the boxer is in the ring landing strikes, jabs, uppercuts, and everything in between.

I have a hard time believing that there is anything much cooler to wrap up a night than your first day in Krabi! Too good!

Day 2: Krabi Island Hopping Tour and Sunset

The second of your 3 days Krabi itinerary is all about Island Hopping and party time!

This island-hopping tour will take you to four stunningly beautiful islands in the Andaman Sea, including Koh Poda, Koh Gai (Chicken Island), Tup Island, and Railay.

There are several island hopping tours in Krabi, and I’ll go through two of the best options for you to have more choices. Here’s how to spend the second day on your Krabi itinerary.

OPTION 1: Join the 7-Island Tour

The popular 7-island tour is a must-do when in Krabi and the best way to experience the coastline, and it’s where the only thing more beautiful than the scenery is making lots of friends.

To get to Railay Beach, you can also take a longtail boat – which is a much more convenient way to get there. Starts with a pit stop at the cliffs of Railay then straight to the paradise of Koh Yawasam, where you can snorkel and plenty of marine life that you should not miss.

Next, you’ll stop at a second point to snorkel, the Chicken Island, which is called like that because it looks like an island with a chicken shape and that is the reason why everybody always laughs!

That’s not it: Koh Tan Ming offer a perfect snorkeling spot before you indulge in a sumptuous BBQ dinner on the beach of Koh Poda, against the backdrop of a stunning sunset.

Visit the wide sandbar of Tub and Mor islands, where you can swim and explore a variety of sea life.

But that’s not all: enjoy a swim by the bioluminescent plankton around Koh Raeng. To sum it up, you’ll finish in the evening all fed, happy, and salty! Because that’s what it’s really all about, isn’t it?

Check out the 7-island tour here below, I’m confident you’ll love it!

OPTION 2: Phi Phi Islands Speedboat Day Tour

Phi Phi Islands have seamlessly earned a reputation for being one of the best destinations in Southeast Asia. Along with that note, it is also one of the finest parts of the Krabi province in Thailand.

And with this tour, the beauty will mix with fun, and that’s exactly what you need when in Krabi!

Your morning starts with a speedboat tour leaving around 9 am from your accommodation in Krabi bringing you directly to the Phi Phi Islands.

First, You’re going to Pileh Lagoon to snorkel, and you can relax and check many colorful fishes and corals. Then you’ll get to Maya Bay — a place you may have seen in The Beach movie with Leonardo Di Caprio.

It’s a beautiful beach where you can lay down and work on your tan, which is incredibly fine!

Your trip leader will also take you to some amazing stops such as climbing at Tonsai or Railay and check out some other hidden secrets like viewpoints, lagoon, or sunset deck.

They provide all things for snorkeling, the have a transfer service from your hotel and back, and you’ll make countless memories.

So you want to experience a little adventure for a day just chilling around the coolest spots in Krabi, this tour is your best choice, no need to think about it!

Watch the Sunset at Ao Nang Beach

Ao Nang Beach makes this 3-day trip to Krabi even better. The setting at sunset is fabulous on Ao Nang Beach. Eat on the beach, cure your Monday blues, watch the sun dip below the horizon, and enjoy the last of the rays.

Other than the night market, my personal recommendations for good food at a reasonable price are Noori India, with great service and delicious food, and Pyramids Restaurant, with Arabic and Thai food.

Day 3: Krabi Town and Viewpoints

On the last day, you’ll get to explore the areas outside of Ao Nang to explore cool and unique locations. Among our options are the famous Tiger Cave Temple and its incredible Viewpoint, the popular Krabi hot springs for some relaxation, and the stunning Emerald Pool.

Feel free to grab a scooter or hire a driver, but my top recommendation is to join an all-in day trip in Krabi, which I will explain below.

The day tour is going to be close to 10 hours long so be prepared for a full day. If you decide to rent a scooter or do it on your own, it will take around the same time; so get ready for an adventure day!

Relax in the Krabi Hot Springs

Klong Thom Hot Springs is a naturally warm waterfall that flows into small pools, and serves as the perfect place to start the day with a relaxing soak (it’s a bit further than some of the other activities on the list, so start early).

To make it easier for people to enter and enjoy, the nearby area has been turned into a man-made pool. This is why you’re in Krabi – to relax and take in the scenery!

If you book a day tour, you will receive complimentary transportation from Ao Nang to the activity and back again, which is very handy on this Krabi itinerary.

Otherwise, just drive from Ao Nang Beach or Krabi Town and go east – Hot Springs are around 50km away from Krabi City and I recommend not driving in case you never driven in Thailand.

Don’t forget to bring 100 Baht per person for the entrance fee and 10 Baht for parking – easily worth it every penny. Also, if you plan to visit the Emerald Pool as well, it will cost you 200 Baht in addition to that.

Take a Dip in Emerald Pool

After chilling at the hot springs, check out the Emerald Pool, which is only 10km away, and you’ll get there easily with a tour.

It’s a stunning natural pool with water that looks like it’s been dyed emerald. The minerals in the water are what give it its amazing color.

It’s located in Thung Teao Forest Natural Park, which is also worth a visit if you have more time available – the entrance fee is 200 Baht, so keep that in mind if you go by yourself.

The morning is the best time to go, when the sun is out, to get the most out of your visit. Take a dip in the pool, explore the jungle walk, and enjoy the tranquility of the area.

Hike up to Tiger Cave Temple

The Tiger Cave Temple, also called Wat Tham Sua is a must-see for any visitor to Krabi, and that’s yet another place I always visit when in Krabi – I can never get enough!

It’s a temple located 1260 steps up from the base, and legend has it that its name comes from a monk who spotted tigers roaming around the cave while he was meditating. But don’t worry – there aren’t any tigers around anymore.

Take the trek up the steps and check out the golden Buddha and the stunning views of Krabi. And watch out for those monkeys that might try to snatch your snacks – they can get pretty aggressive if you have a plastic bag, so avoid carrying one!

Pack a reusable water bottle, and don’t forget to take in the sights at the base of the temple, such as the artificial waterfall, the cool cafeteria, and the beautiful temple.

Take a Boat Along Khao Khanap Nam

While in Krabi town, make sure to go explore the scenic beauty of Khao Khanap Nam, 2 towering cliffs right off the night market. As you cruise down the river, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the limestone cliffs that tower overhead.

You will also stop at an archeological site with a bat cave and even spot some of the local wildlife, including monkeys and birds. And if you time your journey right, you’ll be able to watch the sunset over the river in a truly unforgettable experience.

So why not hop on board a boat today and explore Khao Khanap Nam in style?

The 2-hour boat trip cost me 500 THB, which was very reasonable and I recommend it!

Explore Krabi Town

Krabi Town is a great spot to explore and get a taste of the local culture, and I highly recommend you come here before ending your itinerary for Krabi.

You can easily book a taxi from Ao Nang or book a shuttle from the agencies all around Ao Nang – the price is 150 Baht per person, or around $5.

Check out the night market, indulge in delicious Thai food, and take some photos for your social media – you have to brag on social media while in Thailand!

Don’t forget to check out the Krabi (Town) Weekend Night Market and the Poo Dam Night Market for some local flavors.

And be sure to pay a visit to Wat Kaew Korawaram. There, you can read up on the stories of Buddha on the info boards, but keep in mind that some of the explanations are only in Thai.

You won’t have to worry about spending money to get in; it’s free!

3 Days Krabi Itinerary – FAQ

Now that we’ve discussed everything you should know for the perfect itinerary, let’s answer some questions from first-time visitors.

How Many Days Do You Need in Krabi?

To fully experience the beauty and adventure that Krabi has to offer, I recommend staying for at least three days. This will give you enough time to explore the charming town of Ao Nang, relax on the best beaches, and take day trips to nearby islands or visit the Tiger Cave Temple.

With 3 days, you can also indulge in the delicious local cuisine, shop for souvenirs, and immerse yourself in the unique culture of southern Thailand.

Is Krabi Nicer than Phuket?

Both Krabi and Phuket have their own unique charm and appeal, so it really depends on what you’re looking for.

Krabi is known for its stunning natural beauty, with lush jungles, towering cliffs, and crystal-clear waters. It’s also a bit less crowded than Phuket, making it a great choice for travelers seeking a more laid-back and relaxed atmosphere.

On the other hand, Phuket is known for its vibrant nightlife, lively beaches, and a wider range of dining and entertainment options. So if you’re looking for a more lively atmosphere with plenty of activities to keep you busy, Phuket may be the better choice for you.

However, if you’re seeking a more peaceful and nature-focused experience, Krabi may be the nicer destination.

Is 3 days in Krabi Enough?

While 3 days in Krabi is enough time to see some of the main tourist attractions and get a taste of what the area has to offer, it may not be enough to fully explore all that Krabi has to offer.

With 3 days, you can visit popular attractions like Ao Nang Beach, Railay Beach, and the Tiger Cave Temple, as well as go on day trips to nearby islands.

However, if you have more time available, it’s definitely worth considering extending your stay to fully immerse yourself in the beauty and adventure of Krabi.

With more time, you can experience more off-the-beaten-track destinations, indulge in the delicious local cuisine, and truly relax and unwind.

Is Krabi Worth Visiting?

Definitely, and Krabi is my personal favorite beach destination in Thailand.

Krabi has a unique atmosphere and plenty of attractions to offer, making it worth visiting any time. From the pristine beaches of Railay and Ao Nang to the exciting Chao Fah Night Market and beautiful Emerald Pool, you’re guaranteed to have an unforgettable experience in Krabi.

So if you have the chance, don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit Krabi!

Where to Stay in Krabi?

Last but not least, let’s talk about the best Krabi hotels, whether you travel on a budget or looking for a premium property.

While many people stay in Railay Beach, and I did too, you’ll want to stay near Ao Nang Beach if you have only 3 days in Krabi.

The reason for that is obviously convenience, so you won’t carry your luggage everywhere, but also because you can see most things in Railay on a day out, like I mentioned in this Krabi itinerary.
