With so much to see and do, it can be hard to know where to start your Bangkok itinerary. However, the best way to start your trip is to go to the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, the Emerald Buddha.

This grandiose complex was the former home of the Thai king and is now one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions. The Grand Palace grounds are beautifully landscaped and filled with intricately designed buildings, making it a truly fascinating place to explore.

Apart from the stunning reclining Buddha, you can also see many other interesting sights, including a giant golden stupa, an assembly hall, and a museum.

The temple complex is located in the old city center of Bangkok, not far from the Grand Palace. If you are visiting Thailand, be sure to add Wat Pho to your 3-day Bangkok itinerary.

Siam Paragon is an upmarket mall with a wide range of high-end shops, while MBK Center is a more budget-friendly option with plenty of small shops selling clothes, accessories and souvenirs.

Both malls are easily accessible by public transport and offer a great opportunity to escape the heat and humidity of Bangkok. Siam Paragon is also home to a large Thai food court, making it the perfect place to refuel after a day of shopping.

So whether you’re looking to splash out on designer labels or pick up some bargains, be sure to add Siam Paragon and MBK Center to your Bangkok itinerary.

Head to Chatuchak Market

For an authentic Thai night market experience, Chatuchak weekend market is the place to go. This sprawling open-air venue is one of the largest markets in Bangkok, and it comes alive every Friday night.

Open until midnight on Friday and 6 pm the other days,, the narrow lanes are crammed with stalls selling everything from clothes and souvenirs to street food and live animals to the famous Pad Thai. The atmosphere is electric, and haggling is expected, so keep that in mind.

However, prices are generally very reasonable, especially Thai cuisine, so don’t be afraid to enjoy yourself. Just remember always to smile and stay polite. With a bit of practice, you’ll be able to walk away with some great deals.

And even if you don’t find anything you want to buy, Chatuchak is still a great place to soak up the local atmosphere and people-watch.

Discover Wat Saket

Wat Saket is the perfect place to find some peace and quiet in Bangkok. You see, when planning a Bangkok itinerary, some calm break is needed before going back to the chaos of the city, and this is exactly where Wat Saket excels.

This temple complex dates back to the Ayutthaya period, and it features a peaceful garden, a golden stupa, and views of the city from atop its hilltop location.

Wat Saket is also an important site for Bangkok’s religious community, as it houses a relic of the Buddha. As such, it’s well worth a visit for anyone interested in exploring Bangkok’s religious heritage.

Visit Jim Thompson House

Bangkok is a city full of surprises, and one of those surprises is the Jim Thompson House. This unique museum is dedicated to the memory of an American businessman who helped revive the Thai silk industry in the 1950s.

Today, the museum is a popular tourist destination, and it’s easy to see why. The house is a beautiful example of traditional Thai architecture, and it’s set in a peaceful garden full of tropical plants.

You can learn about Thompson’s life and work, and you can also see some of his exquisite collection of Asian art. If you’re looking for a taste of authentic Thai culture, the museum is well worth a visit.

Have a Cocktail on a Rooftop Bar

There’s no better way to enjoy the second night in your Bangkok itinerary than taking the view from one of the many rooftop bars. Whether you’re looking for a sophisticated spot to enjoy a cocktail or a laid-back bar with stunning views of the city skyline, Bangkok has something for everyone.

One of the most popular rooftop bars is Octave Rooftop Bar, which offers panoramic views of the city and a menu full of inventive cocktails. Note that it’s located on the 45th floor of the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit.

For similar views and better location, near Icon Siam shopping mall, SEEN Restaurant & Bar Bangkok is the ideal alternative, and I’m confident you’ll love the sky bar.

That being said, my favorite is Sala Rattanakosin, located right in front of Wat Arun and offers incredible views of the temple and the boats passing on the river while you sip on a great cocktail. Did I mention that you’ll spot Wat Pho right at your back? All in all, one of the best rooftop bars in Bangkok.

No matter what your style, there’s sure to be a rooftop bar or sky bar in Bangkok that’s perfect for you. What are you waiting for? Time to get a better view of Bangkok!

Day 3 – Take a Day Trip from Bangkok

The last of your days in Bangkok should be all about visiting the surrounding area – I’ll give you 3 amazing day tours here below so that you have all the best options.

After the day trip, I highly recommend going to see the sunset at Asiatique and spending some time at Khao San Road, Bangkok’s most iconic road where you can party or just see another side of the city.

OPTION 1: Join a Day Trip to Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya, Thailand- a city that is rich in history, culture, and interesting ancient temples. Located just 1 hour north of Bangkok, Ayutthaya was once the capital of Siam and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is full of ancient ruins that are a must-see for any visitor.

Ayutthaya was founded in 1350 by King Uthong and quickly became an important center of trade and politics. The city flourished for centuries, until it was invaded by the Burmese in 1767.

The Burmese destroyed much of the city, and it was never able to recover fully. Nevertheless, Ayutthaya remains an important historical site, and a visit here is sure to leave you with a greater understanding of Thai culture and history.

When booking a tour to Ayutthaya, you will also visit the ancient Royal summer palace with your tour guide, which was used by the Royal Family during holidays or when the King of Thailand needed some inspiration before making important decisions.

All in all, when you visit Ayutthaya ancient city and its summer palace, you’ll travel back in time, and you’ll love the ride with all the landmarks and stunning monuments – Plus, the tour includes transportation from Central Bangkok; what else could you ask for?

OPTION 2: Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Located just a short drive from Bangkok, the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is one popular market in Thailand.

It is located about 100 kilometers (62 miles) southwest of Bangkok in the province of Ratchaburi, and I recommend getting there with a tour guide to make your vacation much more convenient.

It is a bustling hive of activity where vendors paddle their canoes back and forth to sell all sorts of goods to locals and tourists from street food to coconut ice cream and so much Thai food. Whether you’re looking for fresh fruits, flowers, or to get a glimpse of the local lifestyle, you’re in for a treat here!

On top of that, you will get to Maeklong Railway Market too, where you’ll see one of the most original local markets, with the train passing by and the shops quickly removing all their goods to let it pass.

While you can get there by yourself, day trips from Bangkok are inexpensive and very convenient and I highly recommend it as soon as possible, tickets sell out fast! Spending 3 days in Bangkok? Find the time to go to the floating markets and Maeklong Railway Market.

OPTION 3: Pattaya and Koh Larn

Pattaya is a world-famous beach resort town and seaside city located on the east coast of Thailand, about 100 kilometers southeast of Bangkok. The city has something to offer for everyone, whether you are looking for a peaceful place to relax or exciting nightlife. Pattaya is also a great place to shop, with its many markets and malls offering a wide variety of goods.

Pattaya’s nightlife is world-famous and the city offers a huge variety of bars, nightclubs, local cuisine, and other entertainment venues. The city is also home to many adult entertainment establishments. The city has a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere and is very welcoming to tourists.

On the other hand, Koh Larn is located off the coast of Thailand, only 45 minutes away from Pattaya. It is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful beaches and clear waters

Koh Larn is a great place to relax and enjoy the sun, but many activities are available for those who want to stay active. Snorkeling, diving, and fishing are all popular pastimes. There are many different beaches on Koh Larn, with the best ones being Tong Lang Beach, Tien Beach, and Tawaen Beach.

Whether you’re looking to relax, stay active, or enjoy some of Thailand’s best beaches, Koh Larn is your place. So why not plan your next vacation here today? There are many great hotels and resorts on the island too, in case you’re willing to spend the night here.

See the Sunset at Asiatique

When in Bangkok, one of the attractions you can’t miss is Asiatique: The Riverfront. It’s a huge outdoor market with over 1,500 shops and restaurants where you can take a stroll, and it’s especially beautiful at night.

The buildings are all lit up with colorful lights, there’s a Ferris wheel that gives you a great view of the city, and even a themed haunted house to have fun with friends and family. What better way to see the sunset in the city?

That’s not it; if you didn’t do it on the first night, I recommend you take a dinner boat cruise along the Chao Phraya river while enjoying the sights of the market lights from afar – what a show!

End the Day in Khao San Road

Khao San Road in Bangkok is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand. The street is known for its cheap hotels, bars, and nightclubs. At night, the street comes alive with music and lights, and you can find everything from Thai food to deep-fried insects and drinks.

There are also a variety of shops selling souvenirs and tailor-made suits.

Khao San Road is also open during the day, and some travelers choose to go during daytime hours to avoid crowds at night. However, a nighttime visit offers a much different vibe, with loud music, bright lights, and crowded streets.

Overall, going at nighttime is great for young travelers and those who want to experience the real Bangkok madness! And there’s no better way to enjoy the last night in your Bangkok itinerary.

On top of being one of the best activities in Bangkok at night, I also recommend booking your hotel near Khao San Road, since you’ll be able to visit the main attractions easily from here.

Bangkok Itinerary – FAQs

When is the Best Time to Visit Bangkok?

There is no wrong time to visit Bangkok, as the city is teeming with activity and attractions year-round. However, the best time to visit Bangkok is from November to March.

The weather is dry, sunny, and not too hot, making it pleasant to walk around and explore. Alternatively, if you’re looking for bargain deals, the hot and humid months between June and October are typically when hotel prices are at their lowest, but expect more rainy days.

How to Get Around in Bangkok?

Getting around Bangkok is relatively easy, thanks to an efficient public transportation system. The three most popular ways to get around Bangkok are by tuk tuk, taxi, and BTS skytrain. Tuk tuks are small, three-wheeled vehicles that can weave in and out of traffic effortlessly. They are an affordable option for short trips around the city, although slightly more expensive.

Taxis are another convenient way to get around, and they are widely available throughout Bangkok – make sure to download the Grab mobile app for the best deals. For a more scenic journey, take the BTS skytrain – an elevated train that offers views of the city skyline.

How Long to Stay in Bangkok?

While it is possible to get a taste of the city in just a few days, I believe that 3 full days is the ideal amount of time to explore Bangkok without feeling rushed. This provides ample time to visit all of the must-see attractions while still leaving room to wander and discover hidden gems.

Plus, 3 days in Bangkok gives you a chance to experience the city’s nightlife and sample the delicious Thai cuisine. So if you’re planning a trip to Bangkok, be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to enjoy everything this fascinating metropolis has to offer.

Where is the Best Place to Stay in Bangkok?

The best places to stay in Bangkok are Siam, Khao San (the old city), and Sathorn. Siam, the area near Lumphini Park, offers lots of nice hotels for a reasonable price. Plus, it’s near the best shopping malls, BTS skytrain station, and Airport Rail Link to save money from Bangkok airport.

Khao San is home to great nightlife, the main attractions like the Grand Palace and the temple of the emerald Buddha, and you’ll experience the more authentic side of Bangkok.

Sathorn is further away from the main attractions but it’s closer to the Chao Phraya river with lots of Thai massage shops and the Icon Siam shopping.
